This is how I got my first apartment in the Bay Area... some of the phone numbers are outdated, but I dont think it's their fault - probably the advertisers did not update their listings right.

This is a free publication that you can find in almost any grocery store. Pages and pages on apartment complexes and they are listed by areas. Very helpful.
